What is the EVO ICL?

The EVO ICL is one of the most advanced ICLs available. An ICL is an implantable collamer lens that aims to improve vision in those with nearsightedness or nearsightedness with astigmatism.

The EVO ICL procedure is a short outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day. During the ICL procedure, your eye doctor will make an incision in the transparent front part of your eye, called the cornea, in order to reach the area where the ICL will be placed.

Next, they will insert the EVO ICL into the eye and position it in place. The small opening in your eye will heal naturally on its own during your recovery period.

There are many different ICLs to choose from. However, the EVO ICL has unique benefits of its own.

The EVO ICL can offer you visual freedom with reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses. To see if you are a candidate for the EVO ICL, schedule an evaluation with your eye doctor at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group.

How Do I Know if I am a Candidate for the EVO ICL?

The only way to know for sure whether or not you are a candidate for the EVO ICL is to visit your eye doctor for a consultation. It's likely that your eye doctor will want you to be between the ages of twenty-one and forty-five and have a stable glasses prescription.

Your eye doctor may not qualify you as a candidate for the EVO ICL if you are pregnant or nursing or if you have chronic or untreated dry eye. The EVO ICL cannot correct vision in people who are farsighted or presbyopic.

If you are farsighted, your eye doctor will likely recommend a different method of permanent vision correction to help accomplish your vision goals. During your consultation, your eye doctor will perform a thorough evaluation of your eyes.

They will use the information collected from various tests along with their evaluation to determine if the EVO ICL may be right for you.

What Makes the EVO ICL Different From Other ICLs?

One of the most significant benefits of choosing the EVO ICL over other ICLs is the fact that it does not require a separate laser procedure prior to ICL surgery. Other ICLs require you to have a laser procedure called a laser peripheral iridotomy before you can have ICL surgery.

A laser peripheral iridotomy, or IPL, is a procedure that aims to avoid elevated eye pressure levels due to a variety of causes. Most types of ICLs require this procedure prior to ICL surgery to prevent a spike in eye pressure during recovery.

During the LPI procedure, your eye doctor uses a laser to make a hole in the iris, which is the colored part of your eye. This new hole creates a new pathway for fluid in the eye and thus can help reduce the chance of a rise in eye pressure.

The advanced technology of the EVO ICL allows you to skip this procedure and experience clearer vision sooner.

Benefits of Choosing the EVO ICL

Permanent vision correction procedures can be a life-changing choice for many people who desire greater visual freedom. Choosing the EVO ICL has unique benefits of its own.

Quick and Easy Procedure

The EVO ICL procedure takes about twenty to thirty minutes to complete. Although you will need to be at the clinic for longer, the actual procedure itself is fairly quick, and you will be able to return home the same day.

Reversible if Needed

Unlike other methods of permanent vision correction, the EVO ICL is easily reversible if needed. Although it is intended to be permanent, if you or your eye doctor determines that the ICL needs to be removed or replaced, it can be.

Provides Excellent Night Vision

It's common to struggle to see clearly more at night when compared to the day. The EVO ICL can allow you to experience crisp vision during the day and at night, all while providing you with reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Exceptional Quality of Vision

In some cases, the EVO ICL may even be able to provide you with vision that is clearer than what you experience with glasses or contact lenses.

Offers a Fast Recovery

The EVO ICL procedure requires little downtime during recovery. Although your eye doctor will have specific instructions and may ask you to take it easy for a few days, recovery from ICL surgery is often much quicker than other types of vision correction procedures.

Suitable for Patients with Thin Corneas

If you do not qualify for other methods of permanent vision correction, like LASIK, due to having thin corneas, your eye doctor may recommend the EVO ICL to best accomplish your vision goals.

Since there is no tissue alteration during the EVO ICL procedure, corneal thickness is not an essential factor that will disqualify you from this procedure.

What Makes Someone a Good Candidate for the EVO ICL?

If you do not qualify for other methods of permanent vision correction, like LASIK, due to having thin corneas, your eye doctor may recommend the EVO ICL to best accomplish your vision goals.

Some of the factors that may make you a good candidate for the EVO ICL procedure are:

  • You have a stable glasses prescription
  • You are nearsighted
  • You are between the ages of twenty-one and forty-five

During your evaluation, your eye doctor will talk with you about your vision goals. If you are qualified as a candidate, and your vision goals align with what your eye doctor believes the EVO ICL will be able to provide, then you will be able to schedule the procedure.
